The Law

Welcome to KHATAM, a fledgling online community in its earliest of stages. First and foremost, thank you for joining, we do appreciate the interest and hope that your stay is long. However, whether longevity or brevity will mark the duration of your stay, there is a "Law" by which you must abide.

==========================
Personal Information and Safety:
==========================

Amongst a number of things, your safety is one of our main concerns while you browse our forums. Be mindful of how much personal information you release, such as email addresses, home addresses, names other than the given username and obvious nicknames, as well as telephone numbers, etc. Nowadays, with an email address and last name, it's not hard to target an innocent user and bring them to tears. Tears made of real sorrow.

=============
Language:
=============

We don't give a fuck what you say, just don't bring people to tears of woe and distress. Racial Slurs, Ethnic Slurs, Deliberately offensive sexist, homophobic remarks, religiously insensitive comments, etc. aren't allowed. We are understanding of ambiguity though, for example, the difference between calling one a Nigguh, Nyukka, Nigga, Negro, Colored, Ninja or Nigger. You can guess which ones are acceptable, and which are not. [And if you'd rather NOT get in trouble, I'll tell you all of them are acceptable except the last one]. Use common sense.

=====================
Offenses and Infractions:
=====================

There are certain restrictions on Forum Behavior that must be addressed in advance. Below, there will be a list of infractions and offenses which can result in a number of warnings, suspension, or ultimately being barred from the forums, utilizing the ban of your IP address. So please, we ask that you avoid these "crimes".

Spamming - Now, time and time again you've heard of Spam on the internet. Unfortunately, spam, when referring to these forums, can not be fried and wrapped in rice and seaweed for a midday snack. Here at KHATAM, Spam is defined as non-sequitur, inane posts. For instance, if you are browsing the "Public Affairs" forum and there is a question or suggestion pertaining to Signature sizes, do not reply with a mere, "no". That simple, "no", without any pretext or explanation can result in a warning. If you notice that a Forumer has spilled his precious spam all over the delicate face of the forum, feel free to kindly, and generously alert the user of his or her offense. Responding to spam with, "STOP IT DUMBASS!" is also considered an offense if that is the entirety of your "generous notification".

Duplicate Threads & Posts - While not as serious an offense as others, this is a law that should be followed for the sake of organization. Before making a new thread, do consider that the thread may have already existed months, weeks, days, or even a mere hour before you create a similar one. If there is a, "What Genres of Music Do You Like?" Thread, hesitate from creating a "What's Your Favorite Genre of Music?" Thread. In order to make sure that you do not break this rule, there may be a bit of work on your part, yet not much. Feel free to search for similar threads beforehand if you're unsure as to whether it's already around or not. The issue of the Double Post is more complicated. The infamous "Double Post" is used to describe the instance of consecutively posting without allowing for a response in between. If you are working on a Roleplay or story, and your post meets the word limit, this is acceptable. If you had forgotten to mention a minor point, remember that you are able to edit your previous post. Duplicate Threads & Posts are minor offenses due to the nature of the crime being accidental at times, such as when you attempt to post, and slow internet results in a "Ghost Post". This is acceptable and in most cases, the "Ghost Post" will be deleted without any incident of reporting being necessary. Abusive duplication however, will result in a warning.

Obscenities - Pornographic material is not allowed, whether it be illustrated or verbal. The realm of pornographic material is vast - from hentai, to guro, to yaoi, yuri, softcore, hardcore, watersports, furries, etc. The list goes on as to what is pornographic material. Just as long, is the list of material that will not be tolerated here at KHATAM. If you feel the urge to post a picture of your most intimate area for "the lulz", please do so on MySpace or Neopets, yet not here on our forums. Excessively violent images, pedophilia, or excrement are considered obscene and will result in suspension or banning, opposed to a warning (depending on the nature of the image).

Flaming Trolls - Arsonists and Leveling Fodder is not allowed. Trolling is the act of actively inciting strong emotions for the sake of controversy and chaos. Very closely related is the act of Flaming. When you attack a member, perhaps defacing their photographs or, more directly, hurling profanities with the intent of distress, you're flaming. Now, oftentimes Trolls will attempt to incite you in hopes of causing you to respond with flaming. In these instances, both parties will be banned from the forums. Don't take matters into your own hands, please report the infraction instead of hard RAEEEEGGIIIIINNNNNNG!!! The Moderators and Administrators here Level Up by banning Trolls and dousing Arsons.

Advertising - Please refrain from advertising your websites, forums, products, or Viagra except where it is allowed. This rule allows one to link to their DeviantArt account, MySpace, Blog, Facebook, etc. in his or her signature, or in your profile, under the website dropbox. Please restrict advertisements to these regions.

===========
Avatars:
===========

The limit for Avatar size is restricted to 64 KB. This is pretty immutable, as are the pixel sizes of 150 x 150.

============
Signatures:
============

The limit for Signature size is restricted to one image maximum. The pixel size allotted is not to exceed 500 (width) x 150 (height); character limit is set to 500 characters.

============
Enforcing:
============

Assuming you've read this far, you've probably browsed through the various infractions and crimes. The preference would be that users do not cross that "metaphoric" line, however we would be naïve to expect rules are never broken. In every case, a Moderator or Administrator will handle the infraction and deal out the penalties accordingly. Never should you try to take matters into your own hands, as the Administrators and Moderators alone serve as the dual hands of Justice.

====================
Reporting an Infraction:
====================

While the Staff Enforces the Law, there is certainly a need for layman participation in preserving the integrity of KHATAM. The manner in which you can serve your civic duty as a Forumer is by Reporting infractions, pressing the Report button as the bottom of every post. If you're somewhat intimidated by the Report button, feel free to send a private message to one of the Moderators or Administrators and he or she will handle the issue upon logging online. When reporting, try to detail the way in which your peer had broken the law, or in the case of sending a private message, provide a link to the offensive thread/post, and once again, provide a description of the infraction.
